Signage For Scientists
Custom illustrations and signage designed for the office space of a unique Bay Area client. This company does incredibly innovative work and they are at the forefront of science, medicine, and technology. However, due to the confidential nature of their work, they need to keep most of it private.
For the overarching visual identity and all design elements throughout the space, we developed the concept of the “Mad Scientist” as the primary lens for all design decisions. That unique lens helped to create a cohesive visual language and unique experience as people navigate the space.

“Mad Scientists”
We wanted to make sure that the design of the signage was consistent with the visual language of the entry gate and other design decisions throughout the space. The overall look and feel of line work that is typically used in scientific drawings, medical illustrations, and mathematical charts was used as inspiration.
Every partner and junior parter were asked to choose a mathematician, medical professional, or “mad scientist” that inspires them. Each of those choices were then used to create custom illustrations that feature each person’s name and create a unique visual identity that relates to the unique beliefs and contributions of each person.
Unique Spacial Identity
Throughout the entire space, there are angled offices, walls, windows, and lights, there are custom slices of carpet with bright colors, and there is unique signage inspired by influential scientists, medical professionals, mathematicians, and others – all on the cutting edge of their fields and considered “mad scientists” in one way or another. There’s even a custom, color changing presentation room, which is named after the experimental light and color artist, James Turrell. All of these design decisions create a cohesive visual language and unique identity in a physical space.
